The chain store sales index for the week endingb May 9 roseby 0.3 percenr from the previous week and inched up 0.5 percent compared with the same week in the report said. That's the first positiver year-over-year reading since early December 2008 and the largesty boostsince Nov. 29, 2008. The reportt said warmer-than-normal weather and the Mother’s Day holiday helped lift customer traffic to its highest readingg sinceearly January, and contributed to the improverd pace of sales on a week-over-week and year-over-yea r basis. The report also said that April comparable-storre sales rose by 0.7 percent compared with the same montuhlast year.
