The index declined in but its decline wasonly moderate, according to a releasde Monday. The index for June is a decreaseof 0.8 from the revised May number of and a decline of 21.6 percent from a year ago. “Comparexd to the beginning of the year, the declinde in the Employment Trends Index hassignificantlg moderated, and we therefore expect job growth to resume around the end of the year,” Gad senior economist at the Conference Board, said in the “However, over the last month, leading indicators of employment were mostlhy disappointing, suggesting the Employment Trends Index is stilk seeking a bottom.
” The Employmeng Trends Index aggregates eight labor-market indicators to show underlying trendws more clearly. For the June index, the indicatords that declined were the percentage of respondents who said theyfound “jobes hard to get,” the number of employees in the temporary-helo industry, industrial production, real manufacturing and trade sales; and job The other three indicators that make up the index are: initialp claims for unemployment insurance, percentagw of firms with positions they are not able to fill righg now, and part-time workers for economicd reasons.
