Barber was named head of a GE program focused on improving health care for more peoplw atreduced cost, by GE chairmab and CEO Jeffrey Immelt. Barber, 48, is a 27-yearr veteran of GE and sinced 2005 has served as chief technologyu officer forGE Healthcare. He joined GE in 1982 and has held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility withijGE Healthcare. In 2001, Barber was general managerd forComponents Engineering, and from 2002 to 2005 he was the genera manager for Global Components Operations for GE Healthcare, whic h has significant operations in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and Waukesha.
