Oakland settles with Chase over foreclosure evictions - Business First of Buffalo:

The lawsuit was one of five filed by Oakland in recent months accusing includingChase (NYSE: JPM) and , and several local real estate agents of violating an Oakland law that protectds tenants from unjust evictions. The city said tenantz in foreclosed homes and apartments provided numerous examplesw of improper eviction notices theyhad Oakland’s so-called “Just Cause” ordinance allows landlords to evictt tenants for specific reasons such as failinh to pay rent or damaging property. However, foreclosure is not a “jus cause” for eviction under the city’s law. Chasde agreed to a settlement that includeda $35,000 payment to the city.
The settlemenr also includes an example of a legapl notice that banks can use to determiner the occupancy of a forecloseed propertyin Oakland. The Oakland Attorney’s Office is in settlemeng negotiations withother defendants.
